I love this! I have so many thoughts that go hand in hand. Firstly - I lived in Amsterdam for two years (just moving back) and really felt this with the weather. The Dutch say “you’re not made of sugar” if you say you don’t want to go out in the rain. I got soaked through the other day due to poor planning and it was totally fine, weirdly funny even. And I agree with the positive and negative thoughts. Our brain is like an A & B road, we often take the A road as it’s easy (negative thoughts) and feels comfortable. But if you go on the B road more and more, it becomes stronger and more dominant. Same goes with many mindset shifts! Great post ❤️

I’m so pleased to read something so close to my heart. I get asked this question a lot too and it took me a long time to answer. After going through a life of tough times in my life, I decided it was time to adopt a new mindset, one more mindful and positive. It’s true that embracing the seasons and tuning into your body makes the world of difference with how our day can go. It’s essential to embrace each day and find small pleasures. It helps massively with our happiness and well-being. Lovely post Lauren! 🤍

Loved reading this newsletter, Lauren. I recognise it a lot when you wrote: “I’ve always been ‘positive’ on the surface and around others but as soon as I was at home the gloomy weather just completely consumed me. It was draining and to be totally honest I wasn’t a very pleasing person to be around.” Its something I am very aware of especially during the dreadful long winter months. This year I have already been coping better with it but would love to improve myself in the next year! But first I’m enjoying the sunnier days! (Although they have seem to be a bit delayed since its the end of May and it has been raining almost daily 😂)

Loved this newsletter (and all the others) so much. As someone who also likes to have everything under control I find the changing and unpredictable weather really stressful so this is very helpful advice which I’m going to try and follow! I am also overly worried about climate change and panic every time it rains so I’m hoping your words soothe me whenever I try to remember them. As an aside I have been looking for a raincoat for the warmer weather and yours looks lovely - where is it from?! X

Lauren shows this raincoat at the end of her latest vlog where she introduces Basil. It is completely at the end of the vlog - if you look there you can also see the back of the coat. It’s from Stutterheim!

I very much relate to being affected by the seasons. I used to wonder why I would get migraines when it rained or grumpy when I was cold. I have always been extremely active and would push myself to move when I would feel my mood drop. A few years ago, I wondered why my usual methods to help myself weren't working anymore and I went to a doctor and had a barrage of tests and scans. When the results came back I was shocked to find out I had stage 3 Osteoarthritis. I wondered where stage 1 and 2 had been? The doctor said I probably had high pain tolerance and had been able to motivate myself to move no matter the consequences. It became clear to me why I didn't enjoy skiing, really wet days and days when barometric pressure was high. Knowing this now I can prepare to help myself be more comfortable. Keep up pilates for the rest of your life Lauren. When I discovered this problem, I commenced physiotherapy and physiotherapist led clinical recovery Pilates and it has helped me remain flexible and positive. Sometimes there can be an underlying reason for SAD (Seasonally Affected Disorder) such as lack of vitamin D, low Iron or plain lack of light. It is so right to encourage people to talk about this issue so that they can gain a better quality of life. ❤️
