Weekly Notes
Noteworthy moments from the last week.
Good Morning my lovely reader,
As June draws to a close, the days feel long and golden. That soft, suspended time where everything slows just a little. The garden is at its most generous: strawberries ripen, roses in full bloom, and courgette flowers open to the morning sun. There’s a stillness in the air that feels like permission to pause.
Our evening meals drift outdoors, routines grow looser, and evenings stretch gently past sunset. It’s the moment between chapters: spring’s energy behind us, summer’s full bloom just ahead. A time to exhale, to take stock, and to let joy be found in the simple things.
Whether you’ve spent the week in your garden, planning slow weekends, or just stealing sunlit moments where you can throughout your usual routine - this is the beauty of the season at its height. The ordinary days, quietly golden.
I always see this time of the year as a quiet shift into high summer so here are my noteworthy moments from this week.
THINGS I’M WATCHING, READING & LISTENING TO
We recently watched the harrowing documentary film on Netflix, Titan: The OceanGate Disaster. It’s definitely worth a watch to learn more around the makings and the failings of the vessel. To be honest I was in shock the entire time listening to the accounts of individuals that worked on OceanGate.
I have just started Bella Mackie’s new novel, What A Way To Go - I really enjoy her writing.
ON MY PLATE
Roasted beetroot & courgette, straight from the garden, topped with feta - delicious!
Tenderstem broccoli straight from the garden. Tossed in a good quality olive oil, sprinkled in chilli flakes and grilled directly on the BBQ - delicious!
We have been purchasing all of our meat for the week from our local farm shop Hartleys - the difference in quality and quantity is just unmatched when you compare it to the supermarket.
COOKING BAKING & DRINKING
I baked a fresh lemon cake for the weekend (my first attempt at a sandwich cake) and it went so well! This is the recipe I followed. I also made a lemon buttercream too!
I made some wholemeal Pitta Breads for our Sunday BBQ of chicken kebabs from the farm shop. They were so quick and easy to make and I will definitely be making these frequently now!
For all my local Kent dwellers Westwell Wine’s have recently launched a new rosé sparkling wine - Petulant Pink. I can confirm it is absolutely delicious. Notes of raspberry, white peach and sour cherry on the nose. Creamy deliciousness to enjoy on a summer evening.
PURCHASING
Another Frieda McFadden book from her Housemaid series which I always thoroughly enjoy. It’s a very short story, this will be my next quick read on a sunny afternoon in the garden.
A rechargeable light for the outdoor dining table.
A very chic wooden garden game
WHAT I AM WEARING
The sight of the sun means my swimsuit is earning it’s keep most days whilst I potter in the garden. They are expensive but they really are worth it!
A beautiful simple cami top to pair with my favourite linen trousers.
THINGS I’M DOING, LOVING & ENJOYING
With the warm weather SPF is essential. I am loving using this water mist and factor 50 too.
If you are looking for a sheer, lightweight skin tint - this is the product for you. I am obsessed with the finish of this!
A new addition to the garden is a water feature. A very simple way to execute this is to use a stone pot and this solar powered water featured. Inexpensive and a great effect!
WISHLIST
Suede Chocolate Gladiator Sandals… Divine.
The perfect bikini for summer and yes, they are worth the hefty price tag! I have a few from here and they last amazingly well.
With love,
