Hello August….. A month that brings nostalgia, simply summer at its fullest.
The dahlias are bursting into colour. The cosmos are frilly and the roses are in their second flush. There are vegetables to harvest every single day - runner beans, courgettes and juicy tomatoes galore.
Waking up with a gentle awareness that this feeling won’t last forever, so let’s grab it with two hands and reap all the joy we can.
The height of summer can seem sparse… the excitement of the new season may have worn off, the hot weather and sleepless nights catching up to you. The grass is scorched and brown, the hydrangeas are desperate for a good drink. New plants dying, droughts and hosepipe bans to name a few. But I wanted to share some of my favourite things about August, to inspire you for the new month ahead and a gentle reminder to keep your feet planted in the grass, because there is always goodness to be found, even in the heat…

My Summer Rituals
Starting my day with a morning drink, sat in the vegetable garden. Planning my day, enjoying the bird song and peace before the world wakes up.
Picking ingredients from the garden for dinner.
Eating everything from the grill outside.
Golden hour dog walks when the air is cool.
Dead heading the roses as a form of meditation.
Making weekly flower arrangements from anything growing in the garden - I’m loving adding stems from the runner beans, the tops of carrots or tomato side shoots to add something different.
