A Guide To The Perfect Seasonal Wardrobe.

Oh the joys of Autumn... The crisp morning air, the golden sun in the late afternoon. The white lace hydrangeas turning their wonderful shades of dusky pink, crunchy leaves underfoot. I really could list 100 things I love about Autumn. But, for me one of my favourite elements to the season is the clothing. The introduction of tweed and wool, soft cosy cashmere. Layering pieces and bringing my jackets out of hibernation.

The Seasonal Wardrobe.

Something that has completely changed the game for me when it comes to my wardrobe is operating a seasonal wardrobe switchover. It sounds pretty intense but it really is as basic as it sounds. At the start of October I will pack away all of my summer dresses, floaty linens, broderie anglais and anything that is really seasonal specific for the summer. I pack them away into cotton storage bags until the following year. In doing so I then bring in my coats, heavier jackets and chunky knitted pieces. I love this method as it means that I can really see the pieces in my wardrobe without it feeling over crowded. I know exactly what I have to wear throughout those months and it makes planning outfits and getting ready so much easier.

Often as we enter a new season it can feel like you need to buy a whole new wardrobe. Brand websites are bursting with new in pieces, our timelines are filled with Autumn outfits, the colour of the season, a new ‘it’ coat that will sell out if you don’t buy it now. It can be overwhelming with perhaps an overbearing urgency that you need to buy new things. Before you start spending any money look through your archive and create a changing room in your own home. Try on all your pieces, perhaps styling things differently using Pinterest or Instagram as inspiration. You may be surprised to find out you actually already have lots of outfits that you love and maybe you just feel you need a few basics or one statement jacket or even a pair of shoes to tie everything together. I love shopping my own wardrobe, it stops me from over consuming and wasting money on pieces I just don’t need and it is such a great way to ensure you are utilising all the clothes that you own.
