14 Ways To Live Like a Nancy Meyers Movie
Elevating the mundane and making and occasion of everything!
Good Morning!
We are working our way through the first month of the year and so far I am throughly enjoy it. After spending a few days realigning my goals and setting intentions for the year (catch up on my thoughts on all the above) I have really hit the ground running. My mantra for the year is less planning more creating and I am definitely sticking to my word so far. I’ve started two new series over on Instagram. The first one being fashion focused; Outfits Inspired by 90’s Catalogue’s and the second ‘Fancy Friday’s’ a weekly mini vlog episode encouraging you to romanticise the mundane, elevate your everyday and find the joy in the small things.
This weekend we have been working away in the garden getting our vegetable garden ready for planting, time is ticking and we need to get the main structure finished as soon as possible.
So far Jack has completed 3/4 raised beds, built the first brick boundary which will be in place to create a divide from the main lawn to the stone ground in the vegetable garden. There is still lots of tick off and get finished in the next few weeks so here’s to a few weekends of hard work (let’s hope the winter sunshines stays!)
Also this weekend I re-watched my favourite movie Somethings Gotta Give and it made me realise how much we can takeaway from Nancy Meyers films. They are so much more than an easy to watch rom-com, it’s a way of life. Here are my top tips for living life like a Nancy Meyers movie:
Taking pride in your home
Always have your fridge stocked with delicious ingredients and drinks.
A signature scent to your home (I like to go for seasonal scents with room sprays, diffusers and candles)
Live by the term Lived in elegance. Through what you wear, how you style your outfits and your home.
Weekly trips to the farm shop or farmers market, bonus points if you have a local flower market too!
Speaking of flowers, keep a fresh bunch in your home. Whether thats cuttings from the garden or the supermarket.
Multiple lamps and light sources in each room for low lighting to set the mood each evening.
A calming jazz playlist to play throughout the house.
Find what outfits make you the happiest and stick to them, finding your signature style will always be chic.
Less is more with everything.
Curated clutter at home injects your personality without feeling like you’ve walked into a Home Sense store. Simple silver frames with family photographs, candle stick holders and small bud vases are some of my favourite things to style a side table.
Invest in knitwear that will last.
Look after your clothes, de-bobbling knitwear, washing and ironing properly etc…
Enjoy the good things! Don’t save your candles for a special occasion or ‘best’ - that goes for everything. Ingredients, wine, lipstick etc…
As you are probably bored of hearing by now I am a huge advocate for elevating life’s everyday mundane things. I have been like this since I was a child and have always used anything as an occasion. If I know I have an editing day ahead of me with a good few hours at my desk I will always make a nice drink, light a candle, put a good playlist on or a film in the background… Essentially setting the scene, much like a Meyers movie.
Life’s too short we should celebrate the mundane and find gratitude in all the small things.
