Monthly Notes: September
4 things I am looking forward to this month: Autumn equinox, realigning and PPE.
Good Morning lovely reader! The first week of a new month has passed already, which for me has been a full post trip reset. I have spent the last few days getting on top of the dreaded post-trip washing and ironing, catching up on work and my interior course as well as doing lots of fun things like re styling the shelving and adding new cushions to the sofas.
I know the word Autumn is being thrown around left right and centre over socials already, but I am still holding out for a few more days of summer this month. To be honest, I would be overjoyed to have a couple of sunshine filled weekends, the air crisp as the leaves start too morph into their new season shades.
September always feels like such a magical month. The hybrid of late summer and early autumn weather. The feeling of passing from one part of the year to another being all too clear in front of us. You only have to look at the nature that surrounds us to see this happening. I revel in the act of transitioning my wardrobe, my home and even the recipes that I make.
Here are a few things that I am looking forward to this month:
Re-align & Refresh.
September is the ‘back to school month’ now don’t get me wrong, I left school 10 years ago and I definitely will not be picking out a new fluffy pink pencil case and shiny pair of black patent school shoes. But, the same qualities definitely apply to my adult life. The feeling of a fresh start. Turning over a new leaf. A new chapter in the book. It’s a month for me to re align with the goals I set at the beginning of the year. Refresh the house and feel lighter mentally and physically (a good clear out is good for the soul.) Jack and I always like to sit down at the start of a new season and write a list of the jobs we want to start throughout the garden and the house, it’s such a nice moment to look forward to plans we have put in place.
Blackberry Picking.
One of my favourite things to do in the woodland surrounding our house is forage the abundant blackberry bushes. Basil and I have already been out, armed with a plastic sandwich bag to fill with natures sweets. I love to freeze these so I can use them in loaf cakes and crumbles. We keep a fresh stash in the fridge for greek yoghurt toppings. Even adding them into Autumn-esque salads, blackberry and brie definitely isn’t a combination to be missed! You could also make jams and chutneys to gift over the festive season…. Forgive me for using the F word.
PPE For The Weather.
If you live in England you are most likely all too familiar with the ridiculous amounts of rain we receive, perhaps a part of the seasons that can put a dampener on our moods (see what I did there.) But I really do think with the right outerwear it really isn’t something that should stop you. I have been kitted out in, what I like to call my PPE, a shin length rain coat done up to my chin, hood tied tightly around my face and wellies all the way to the knee. Honestly, if you saw me out on a dog walk I would most likely appear as a floating face as I walk through the woodland in head to toe sage green. But, it means that my walks become joyful all through the rainy season (although saying that we seem to get rain all year round.)
Autumn Equinox.
On the 22nd September we will see the equinox, the perfect half way point between Mid-Summer and Mid-Winter with exactly 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night. This is considered the perfect day to rest, reflect and rebalance yourself. A perfect opportunity to do all the things you love. This year it falls on a Sunday which is even better! Perhaps a Sunday reset of your house, a cleanse of your wardrobe or even a day outside in nature, anything that recharges your soul.
Re-Ignite Your Senses.
Throughout the month I tend to find myself pottering. Switching up cushions in the living room, re styling shelving, adding potted plants to console tables and essentially spending a lot of time roaming around the house. It is in these moments that our senses really come in to play. This month create a playlist that you can put on whilst you’re at home to really set the scene, the Autumn soundtrack to our home is one of my favourites, if you want to have a listen. Pick out your favourite scents for candles and room sprays, our home will be oozing the scent of Autumn Vibes - Maison Margiela. Switch out your summer throws for cosy wool. Introduce your cashmere pieces slowly but surely throughout the month. Adjust your recipes bringing in those seasonal vegetables and hearty flavours, a chicken casserole is my favourite Sunday evening dinner.
I hope you enjoyed this weeks entry, see you next Monday. Lots of love, L x

I did my autumn/winter wardrobe refresh yesterday afternoon and it's really invigorated me for the new season. I was hoping a languid late summer situation too, but it's been so stormy that the knits, blazers, trousers and Hunter boots are firmly back out now!
