It’s no secret that I have a bit of a girl crush on my ultimate icons, Nancy Meyers & Martha Stewart. To me they emulate everything in life that I prioritise. Wholesome slow living with a focus on your home, garden and loved ones.
If you haven’t already watched Nancy Meyers movies, please go and do so this weekend, you will not regret it. Everything about them, I just adore. But, a stand out feature for me is the homes and interiors. I mean, of course they would be amazing with Nancy’s home herself being absolutely exquisite.
As a lot of you requested more interior focused entries, I thought this would be a great place to start. But please do let me know if there are any topics in particular you would like to read around this subject.
So, here are 5 ways you can elevate your home with a Nancy Meyers inspired mindset.
Low Lighting
One of the main must haves for a cosy home is lighting. Prioritising low lighting in the form of table lamps, wall lights, floor lamps and dimmable bulbs. As soon as the light starts to fade I will put all my lamps on. It really sets a beautiful atmosphere in the house. One of my favourite purchases for the house is our dimmable bulbs. Not only are you able to choose the brightness of the bulb but you can operate them from your phone, which is so handy when you have a lot of lamps dotted around.
Trinkets & Decor
Something that you notice throughout the homes in NM’s movies is decor. Trinkets add a huge touch of personality into your home. When chosen with a curated mindset, can look beautiful and avoid the ‘cluttered’ look. Whether its an antique silver catch all dish to house your jewellery or match boxes collected from your favourite restaurants. Perhaps it’s a woven tray for your coffee table to house your candle collection. A stack of your favourite coffee table books or decor pieces you have picked up along your travels. A home should show your personality and these are great ways to decorate your shelving or console tables.
My top tip is to curate a collection of decor over time. You may feel like you want to rush and fill up your shelves with items from online sites but it’s so worth waiting for special pieces that you find in antique stores, markets or when you’re travelling.
Think About Layers.
When you dress a room a great way of simplifying things is to think of it in layers. First the blank canvas, focusing on the wall colour and flooring. Take time looking through samples, go for timeless white walls to accentuate the light. Are you going to add any mouldings, coving or architrave to add detail?
Next furnishing. Let’s take the living room as an example, we need a sofa, a coffee table, perhaps you would like armchairs and a sideboard or console table. Then look at lighting, can you add table lamps, floor lamps, a statement ceiling light or wall lights.
Moving onto the details. Do you have plain walls that a beautiful piece of art could bring to life? Perhaps even a gallery wall with antique framed paintings. Soft furnishings like long draped curtains hung from near the ceiling to add depth. Details like cushions, throws and a rug make a huge difference and a great way to add pattern and colour (if you are indecisive like me.)
Then finally we are onto the finishing touches, decor pieces and trinkets. Think about adding personal photographs in frames (I personally love black and white) add diffusers, candles, coffee table books, a potted plant or flowers to any side tables or consoles to add eye catching detail to your room.
Crisp White Bedding
My favourite scenes from Somethings Gotta Give are in the bedroom, Diane’s master and the guest bedroom. They are decorated with such an effortless charm, you can almost feel the serenity through the screen. One thing that really stands out is the bed, dressed in crisp white cotton bedding, large fluffy pillows and dress cushions. Layers of throws add warmth, but all in a clean neutral palette. You just can’t beat crisp white bedding. It really adds to that hotel feeling.
Soften Your Kitchen.
Trying new recipes, baking, a dining table that doubles as a child’s craft school and an office. The place where guest's gather for canapés and drinks when you are entertaining and you enjoy your casual mid week dinners. The kitchen is a high traffic area and is the heart of the home. Adding soft living details is one of my favourite tricks to elevate a kitchen and make it feel a little less appliance heavy.
Small table lamps placed on your worktop to add a soft warm light in the evenings. This is similar to my kitchen lamp*.
Artwork and personal photos on window sills, shelving or the walls.
A runner is a lovely way to create warmth under foot in your kitchen and softens any echo. Jute is my favourite fabric for a kitchen space*.
If you have shelving or a glass cabinet utilise this to arrange your best dining wear.
Layer your kitchen worktops with mango wood chopping boards, antique salt and pepper mills* and a stone pot of utensils*.
I love to have a fresh pot of herbs in the kitchen, I use them every single time I cook dinner. A chic planter* makes such a lovely addition to the kitchen.
A beautiful hand soap* by your sink.
A big bowl of fresh fruit for snacking.
It goes without saying that interior style is totally subjective. What one person loves another may dislike, but that is the beauty of personal style. I hope you enjoyed this weeks entry, thank you for reading as always! L x

Wait until you start collecting Louis Vuitton trunks and Wedgewood, Royal Doulton and Spode china! It gets a little out of control. Louis Vuitton blankets, Hermes blankets, Sanderson fabrics, William Morris, Warwick linens.... I'm obsessed and visitors to my home appreciate the vibe being cosy. I painted all of my walls in Ralph Lauren Tennis Court White. We have 4 metre ceilings with roses and deep cornicing, the addiction to decoration never stops. Around my pool we used white ice granite tiles and Avignon Cast Iron Urns with Erigeron Daisies and Large Bearded Iris in blues and purples with white stone pebbles to keep weeds at bay. It is a passion of mine and I can't wait to see how your develops. 😍
Love love! I’m a big lover of low lighting when it comes to the evening
